Have you ever pondered Jesus’ parable about the five foolish and five wise virgins? If not, I advise you to do so. It packs a powerful punch into the meaning of conscious awareness, and I firmly believe that interpreting it correctly has the power to change your life. Jacob’s Ladder
After my last post, Thank God Adam and Eve Ate the Apple, you may be wondering more about ‘how’ and ‘why’ the fall from grace happened. It wasn’t until I had studied theosophy before I really began to understand this process with any kind of clarity. The story of Adam and Eve suddenly made a whole lot more sense to me. In fact, the entire Bible did. I’ll break it all down for you in this post. [Read more…] about Jacob’s Ladder
Thank God Adam and Eve Ate the Apple!
Religion usually tricks people into thinking that up is down and down is up. There is hardly a better example of this than with the story of Adam and Eve.
“Man’s sin was to partake of the forbidden fruit,” I have heard many preachers say. “It would have been better had he listened to God instead of Satan.”
Um, no, it wouldn’t have. If Adam and Eve were literal humans (they weren’t), then their choice to obey God [Read more…] about Thank God Adam and Eve Ate the Apple!
Could Colossians 2:9 Really Suggest We Are God?
In my last post I discussed two verses that I believe sum up a core theme of the Bible: not only is god-potential latent in every human being, but we are god. In this post I am going to explore this concept further by discussing Colossians 2:9. I’ll close with a little information on the potential of the human brain and DNA, two subjects which will become more frequent in upcoming posts.
Let’s review our foundation scripture first:
“For in him [Christ] dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” [Read more…] about Could Colossians 2:9 Really Suggest We Are God?
The Message of the Bible in Two Radical Verses
I believe a fundamental—yet radical—message of the Bible can be summed up in a few short verses, and I’m going to share with it you in this post. I will probably get some hate mail because of it. I’ll probably even have a few people tell me I’m going to hell. But that’s what I expect from a message as powerful as the one you’re about to hear. Powerful messages are always misunderstood anyway. Jesus himself got crucified for it.
Without further ado, here are the verses: [Read more…] about The Message of the Bible in Two Radical Verses
Why Did Jesus Turn Water to Wine?
The Gospel of John records a pretty cool miracle: at a wedding in Cana, Jesus turned water into wine. He certainly wouldn’t have had any problem getting into a college fraternity. 🙂
All joking aside, we have to ask why this miracle? Wouldn’t that have contributed to drunken guests? Ordinary humans were allowed to do that sort of thing, but God himself? What business does he have with such a miracle?
I remember the first time I really thought about this in church. I probably raised an eyebrow. In fact, if I remember correctly, some of the other younger teenagers did too. A lively debate ensued in our Wednesday-night Bible study on whether or not this wine contained alcohol. [Read more…] about Why Did Jesus Turn Water to Wine?
Job’s Ending Much Better Than His Beginning: An Esoteric Lesson for Humanity
I have finally finished part 3 of our Job series. Here it is, and I promise it presents some exciting esoteric information as it pertains to our conscious development.
We have already discussed (in part 2 of this series) how Job’s three friends represent the mental, astral, and physical bodies. These natures are seamlessly integrated with our soul and they all play a part in the evolutionary development of our consciousness, from the lower to the higher mind. Without these bodies, the self would not be able to evolve [Read more…] about Job’s Ending Much Better Than His Beginning: An Esoteric Lesson for Humanity
Leviathan the Sea Serpent: Our Emotional Energy Reservoir
Part three in our Job series is coming, but in the meantime I thought it would be fun posting something on that greatly misunderstood and majestic creature, leviathan. Comprehending what this Biblical icon represents will help us on our quest to understand our own existence and purpose. This symbol also fits perfectly in our Job series because it is meant to be a symbol explaining base energies that serve to help evolve consciousness. Job’s Friends: The Mental, Astral, and Physical Bodies, and the Root of Suffering
In the last post we began a series on Job. We discussed who Satan was, how Job’s children represented qualities within himself, and the fact that Job was doing everything he could (religiously) to make atonement for his natural shortcomings. And although Job was perfect according to the religious rites and customs of his day, these acts, while noble, are never good enough to reach the divine because they come from the lower nature.
Today we are going to address the concept of suffering further. Why do the seemingly innocent suffer? How could God even allow such a thing? As we’ll soon see, the answer is provided through an esoteric understanding of the roles of Job’s friends. An Esoteric Interpretation of Job: Ascension of the Self through Suffering
Today’s post will provide an esoteric interpretation of Job. This should be a good study for anyone who may be struggling to progress to the next stage of their spiritual evolution because you have one foot still planted in religion. Perhaps this post will help show you the difference between religion and true spiritual development. This post will be the first in a series.
Many scholars believe the Book of Job to be the oldest in the Bible. There are certainly many strange elements about the story that seem too far removed to fit the traditional religious mold. [Read more…] about An Esoteric Interpretation of Job: Ascension of the Self through Suffering
Spiritual but Not Religious: Mentally Unstable?
I found an article by Dan Merica on CNN this week very interesting. In case you didn’t see it, the headline read:
“The spiritual but not religious likely to face mental health issues, drug use, study finds.” You can read the original story on CNN here.
When I first read the headline I passed judgment; what kind of person would say such a thing? I decided to click on the link and see what it was all about. [Read more…] about Spiritual but Not Religious: Mentally Unstable?
Zazen, Biblical Meditation, Jesus and Torah
Could the Bible really contain teachings similar to Zazen, a type of Buddhist meditation? What if I told you that something akin to Zazen (and many other Eastern style meditations) was at the core of Biblical teachings, in both the Old and New Testament? In this post I will show you why I believe it is.
Google the words “Biblical meditation” and you will find dozens of sites proclaiming that meditation from a Biblical standpoint doesn’t resemble “Eastern” style concepts and techniques. [Read more…] about Zazen, Biblical Meditation, Jesus and Torah
The Bible: Going inside the Mind
The Bible truly is a wonderful book. It saddens me that most people who read it don’t understand that it is more about the mind than it is religion, and within its pages are the keys to unlock the higher mind’s potential. This post is going to explore this potential. In part 2 of this series I am going to discuss Zazen, a type of Zen meditation, and how it supports Biblical teachings on the healing of the mind. The comparison is fascinating to say the least! [Read more…] about The Bible: Going inside the Mind
Joseph Part 3: Final Ascension
This post will wrap up our series on the story of Joseph. It is the most important post of the series because these Biblical events teach us about ascension and manifesting the divine. Be sure to read Part 1 and Part 2 of this series first.
Thus far in our series we have seen how Joseph represents the sun and the Christ. We have also learned that everyone contains their own inner sun, called the Solar Plexus, where thoughts and emotions are processed and expressed. In other words, this is the house of our ego. As we raise the Holy Spirit in us from the Solar Plexus to the Crown chakra, we birth the Christ and metaphorically we can say that the son / sun rises within us, purging negative emotions and thoughts, increasing our self esteem, and strengthening our intuitive abilities. This process also balances the divine masculine and divine feminine energies within us. [Read more…] about Joseph Part 3: Final Ascension
Horus and Jesus: Is There a Link Between the Two?
This post will tackle and interesting topic for traditional Christians and mystics alike: can we establish— through credible evidence—that the story of Jesus was influenced by Horus, the Egyptian sky / sun-god? For those of you waiting on part 3 of the Joseph narrative, I’ll have it posted on the upcoming weekend. In the meantime I thought it would be fun to post something a little different to start off the New Year.
Many sites floating around on the web are making the claims below:
1) Horus and Jesus were born of virgin [Read more…] about Horus and Jesus: Is There a Link Between the Two?
